TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY

MY TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY IS GROUNDED IN MY BELIEFS. My beliefs were influenced early in my career, when working with survivors of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City and the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Watching my clients recover from unimaginable events revealed the remarkable resilience of the human spirit. We have an extraordinary capacity to overcome, find meaning in, and transcend adversity. Those experiences shaped the beliefs that continue to guide my work today. I BELIEVE:

  • YOU ARE UNIQUE. There is no one like you. You have your own beliefs and values, and your experiences must be viewed through your uniqueness.

  • YOU HAVE INHERENT WORTH. You are worthy of respect, care, and compassion. Your value never depends on what you do, think, or feel.

  • YOU POSSESS INNER STRENGTH. You have the capacity to navigate your challenges. Even if you feel stuck, you can make meaningful changes.

  • YOU CAN CULTIVATE RESILIENCE. You can find new ways to think and behave. You can learn, grow, and change, even in the face of adversity.

  • YOU CAN CREATE MEANING IN YOUR EXPERIENCES. You can find meaning in your suffering. You can accept yourself and your struggles, and become more.

I BELIEVE YOU CAN DEFINE WHAT HAPPINESS, SUCCESS, AND A BETTER LIFE LOOKS LIKE FOR YOU. I CAN ASSIST YOU IN CHARTING YOUR OWN COURSE TO ATTAIN THOSE THINGS. I CAN HELP YOU SEE, THINK, FEEL, AND BEHAVE IN NEW AND EXCITING WAYS.

SEE DIFFERENTLY

You struggle less when you see clearly. Seeing clearly begins with a new perspective. When stuck or confused, a shift in perspective opens your mind to new possibilities. Quite simply, seeing differently allows you to BE different. It deepens understanding, opens the door to change, and creates the possibility for lasting transformation.

I help my clients see their lives in new ways by recognizing patterns. When you see patterns, you can change. You see how childhood experiences affect you now, or how relationships repeat themselves, or why limiting beliefs hold you back. You can see yourself from a new perspective. You can rewrite your story to make your life what you want it to be.

I help my clients see:

  • From a broader, more expansive point of view

  • With curiosity, opening the door to new possibilities

  • With compassion, able to recognize they are not flawed

  • With confidence, knowing they can take meaningful action and succeed

Things change when you change. Change begins when you see differently.

THINK DIFFERENTLY

Thoughts shape the way you experience your life. They influence how you interpret situations, relate to others, and see yourself. While you can’t stop your thoughts from appearing, you can learn to work with them. You can challenge your thoughts and choose better ones. When your thoughts change, your story changes.

Many people believe happiness depends primarily on circumstances. While circumstances matter, the meaning you assign to them matters even more. Your thoughts influence your feelings, choices, confidence, and ability to move forward. Better thoughts help you overcome challenges and attain your goals. Learning to think differently opens the door to new possibilities and lasting change.

I help my clients understand:

  • Thoughts, and how they influence your feelings and behaviors

  • Negative thought patterns, and how they impact mood and performance

  • Self-talk, and how it affects your confidence and self-esteem

  • Worry, rumination, and intrusive thoughts, and how to overcome them

The words you tell yourself matter. Your story changes when you think differently.

FEEL DIFFERENTLY

Emotions can be confusing, powerful, and sometimes overwhelming. The word emotion comes from the Latin emovere, meaning “to move.” Emotions carry important information. They tell you what matters, what needs your attention, and what may need to change. Understanding what you feel - and why you feel it - is essential to your health, your relationships, and your well-being.

Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand, and manage your emotions. It also helps you understand the emotions of others. When you work with your feelings in a healthy, productive way, you make better decisions, communicate more effectively, build stronger relationships, and create a better life for yourself.

I help my clients learn about:

  • Emotional intelligence, and its role in health and happiness

  • Mindfulness, and the ability to observe emotions without judgment

  • Distress tolerance, and healthier ways to respond to difficult emotions

  • Emotional awareness, and its impact on decision-making and relationships

Understanding your feelings changes your story. Things change when you feel differently.

BEHAVE DIFFERENTLY

Changing your behavior isn’t easy. You may know exactly what you want to do, yet find yourself doing the opposite. Old habits are familiar and comfortable, even when they no longer serve you. The good news is that behavior can be changed. One small step at a time, you can build new habits, develop new skills, and become the person you want to be.

We have a love-hate relationship with change. We desperately crave it and, at the same time, are terrified by it. Whether trying to improve your health, strengthen a relationship, or simply become a better version of yourself, change requires intention, courage, and persistence. Promises kept to yourself build confidence, momentum, and hope. Over time, small changes create lasting transformation and rewrite your story.

I help my clients with strategies for:

  • Creating self-directed behavior change

  • Strengthening willpower and following through

  • Overcoming self-sabotage and procrastination

  • Setting meaningful goals and maintaining consistency

You can do this. You can change. You can behave differently.

You can change how you think, feel, and act to Rewrite Your Story and Transform Your Life!
