AUTHENTICITY
WHY DO YOU NEED TO KNOW WHO YOU REALLY ARE?
Your journey through life is unique. There is not, and never has been, someone exactly like you. Throughout your life you will travel a path that is distinctly your own. As you do, you must come to know and understand yourself. You must discover who you are, and what is true for you.
All events - good and bad - contribute to your journey. They shape you, challenge you, and help you discover who you truly are. This is one of the unexpected gifts of what is most difficult in life. You get to find out who you are - and who you want to be - in the face of what is most painful for you.
Adversity demands you do life differently.
Whether small (a tiff with a friend) or large (a major loss) you are asked to grow, stretch, and function in new ways. When you find yourself in a place you never thought you’d be, you have to find your way through. Sometimes you have to hike your way out.
That journey becomes your hero’s story.
The hero doesn’t walk someone else’s path. The hero walks their own path. To do that authentically, you have to know yourself. Who are you? What matters to you? What do you believe? What do you want? Who do you want to be?
These questions - and others - help lead you forward.
A challenge requires you to create order out of what has become jumbled, uncertain, or no longer right. What do I want? What’s right for me? Which way is forward? are questions that cannot be answered by looking outside of yourself. Others can advise you. They can support and encourage you, and offer their wisdom. But they cannot tell you what is true for you.
You must go inside and listen.
You must come home.
You must come home to yourself.
The real you may not immediately know every answer. The real you may have to take some time to figure things out. But the real you knows what feels wrong and what feels right. The real you can recognize what matters, what fits and what feels off. The real you can learn, choose, change, grow, heal, and transform.
The real you is your way out. The real you is your way through.
Authenticity doesn’t ask you to become someone new. It asks you to become more fully you.
From that sacred place, you can decide what is right and what needs to come next.
That’s why you need to know who you really are.
